How to Preserve Your Orchid Bouquet
There might be an occasion when you would like to keep your Orchid Bouquet as memorabilia. A wedding would be such an occasion. You can preserve your Orchid Bouquet and keep it for years to come without the effects of drying and aging affecting the look of the bouquet.
You can choose to have a professional preserve your Orchid Bouquet or you can do it yourself. This decision should be made well in advance of the event since all the methods of preservation require immediate treatment. Preservation treatment should be started no later than four days after the event.
When you are making the decision between doing it yourself or hiring a professional keep in mind that orchid preservation can take weeks to complete. If you are completing the process yourself, you will need to have time to watch the process to make sure that it is done properly. You will also need to have time to start the process immediately. Unless you have experience with bouquet preservation you might want to consider hiring a professional for a realistic preservation of your orchid bouquet.
There are several methods to preserve a bouquet. One method is freeze-drying. In this process, the parts of the bouquet are taken apart and freeze-dried. After this, the bouquet is put back together in the original arrangement. Freeze-drying can take up to four weeks to complete. Another method is pressing. In the same way as freeze-drying, the orchid bouquet is taken apart and the flowers are pressed. Next, the flowers are arranged and framed. The flowers will be flattened, but the original silhouette of the bouquet will be maintained. Pressing can take up to ten weeks to complete.
If you choose to preserve your bouquet on your own at home you can use a drying agent like sand, silica gel, or borax. When one of these drying agents is used, the flowers must be completely covered to draw out the moisture. Choose the preservation method that best meets your needs.
